Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural artwork by Melissa Stratton Pandina explores the connection with nature and how the soil connects us with our ancestors.

“Mushrooms and mycelium connect the plant world together, so I wondered what if they contain all the memories of the land,” Pandina says. “My work shows my obsession with light and neolithic art.”

Pandina graduated from MassArt with a degree in illustration in 2003 and continued her education in the second cohort of the Community Mural Institute. She has sold paintings internationally and domestically, working with several publishers to contribute to calendars, magazines, and album covers.
