Bird Is The Word! A Very Julia Child Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving kicks off the most wonderful time of the year, so what better way to celebrate than by devouring a splendid internet buffet of legendary chef Julia Child. Start with the amazing video above, then work your way around the table. Take some extra slices of this vintage episode of WGBH’s “The French Chef,” in which Julia roasts a turkey for the holiday.

First, Julia grapples with the big bird. Flap, Flap, Flap.

She continues to make friends with the turkey as she begins the preparation process.

It’s so beautifully arranged on the plate, you know someone’s fingers have been all over it.

A little stuffing never hurt anybody, right?

And gravy. Yes, please!

Is it ready?

Yep, it’s definitely ready.

Bon Appétit!

To be a good cook you have to have a love of the good, a love of hard work, and a love of creating.

Julia Child's Top Five Turkey Tips

Julia had a lot to say about turkey. In fact, she devoted an entire section to it in her fourth cookbook, From Julia Child's Kitchen. Many a Thanksgiving Day throughout the 1970s and '80s would find Julia picking up her home phone and guiding frantic home chefs through preparing their turkeys (her phone number was still listed in the Cambridge, Mass. public directory).

Here are five of her top turkey picks, which includes her turkey roasting timetable to make this year's bird your best.
