GBH Music and JazzBoston celebrate International Jazz Day with Walid Zairi & Talween, showcasing original world jazz music that blends the oud and accordion. Oud player and Talween frontman Walid Zairi’s compositions are influenced by his Tunisian African roots and classical Arabic music background, with jazz elements layered in to create a fresh and energetic sound. Named after the Arabic word for "coloring," Talween features world-class Boston musicians who weave a kaleidoscope of musical colors with intense melodies, jazz and African rhythms, intricate harmonies, and bold improvisation.

GBH Music and JazzBoston kick off the 2025 JazzNOW series with a celebration of Hermeto Pascoal, one of Brazil's most iconic and genre-defying composers. This mesmerizing Latin jazz performance features TRIAD, a powerhouse trio that brings together three world-class musicians: multi-Grammy award-winning Peruvian bassist Oscar Stagnaro, acclaimed pianist Maxim Lubarsky, and multi-Grammy and Latin Grammy award-winning drummer Mark Walker. Renowned for their mastery of Latin jazz and improvisational brilliance, the trio will explore Pascoal's rich repertoire and adventurous spirit, blending his lush harmonies, dazzling rhythms, and intricate melodies with fresh interpretations. For this special performance, TRIAD is joined by renowned Puerto Rican saxophonist Edmar Colón.

About the Ulysses Quartet:
The Ulysses Quartet has been praised for their “textural versatility,” “grave beauty” and “the kind of chemistry many quartets long for, but rarely achieve” (The Strad). Founded in 2015, the group won the grand prize and gold medal in the senior string division of the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and first prize in the 2018 Schoenfeld International String Competition. The quartet’s members hail from Canada, the United States and Taiwan. They have performed in such prestigious halls as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, the Picasso Museum in Málaga and Washington’s National Gallery of Art among many others. At Juilliard from 2019 to 2022, they were the Lisa Arnhold Fellows, serving as the School’s Graduate Resident String Quartet for 3 years. The group’s name pays homage to Homer’s hero Odysseus and his 10-year voyage home. The members of Ulysses perform on instruments and bows on loan from the Maestro Foundation and private donors.
