Special Counsel Robert Mueller explained this week why he did not issue an obstruction of justice charge against President Donald Trump, in a press conference that put the investigative responsibility squarely on the shoulders of Congress going forward.
In the days after his remarks, more lawmakers have voiced support for launching impeachment hearings, even as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has wavered on the issue.
In an interview with Boston Public Radio on Friday, national security expert Juliette Kayyem wondered if Pelosi is just biding her time.
"If you impeach in the first term, you know what the senate is going to do, and he wins in 2020, then what do you have after that?" asked Kayyem. "I just wonder if Pelosi is taking the long game ... it's called Richard Nixon!"
Kayyem is on the faculty of Harvard’s Kennedy school, a CNN analyst and CEO of ZEMCAR. She also discussed Trump's threats to impose tariffs on Mexico to stem the flow of migrants, and the security implications of extreme weather events.
