UMass Boston says there is no ongoing threat to the campus community after unconfirmed reports of gunfire on Thursday.

Boston Police had urged the public to avoid the campus following reports of shots fired shortly after 3:40 p.m. A spokesperson for the department emphasized that police had not confirmed any shots, and no individuals had been found with firearms on campus.

UMass Boston canceled all classes and activities Thursday evening, the school announced on its social media platforms.

“Multiple units responded and are actively investigating the building and surrounding area [at 240 Morrissey Boulevard],” a BPD spokesperson wrote in an earlier statement to GBH News.

Massachusetts State Police troopers also responded to the incident.

UMass Boston had told students they should avoid the area around Campus Center, Residence Hall East Building and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, citing a police incident.
