WGBH is excited to welcome Mike Deehan to our newsroom as a State House and government correspondent. From our general manager Phil Redo:
As you all know, our long time State House Reporter, Sarah Birnbaum is leaving her post to join her husband on a year-long sabbatical. Sarah has been an important member of WGBH News and her reports have helped us establish our local emphasis since the very start. We wish her only the best – and we will indeed miss her.
Coverage of state government, the process, the players and the impact on people remains a critical topic area for WGBH News, so I am very happy to confirm that as of Monday, June 15th, Mike Deehan will become our new State House and government correspondent. Mike will be based on Beacon Hill but will be an active part of our newsroom, and also will contribute to coverage of city government and other politics news.
Mike joins us from the State House News Service where he has been a reporter and multi-media content producer since July 2008. Mike helped to build out the News Service’s multimedia operation and establish production workflows for online, web video, photos, audio and links. He also has served as the editor of MASSterList, the comprehensive and entertaining daily news aggregator newsletter and blog which covers all aspects of local government news.
Before joining State House News, Mike was a reporter and contributing editor for The Dorchester Reporter and he also spent a year at The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard. He lives in Boston and has his journalism degree from UMass Amherst.
There is no doubt Mike will be a great contributor to WGBH News – on every platform, including The Scrum. Please join me in welcoming him to WGBH News.
