Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural features a crayon drawing by Necee Regis. Inspired by images of both stem cells and the cosmos, the microcosmic and macrocosmic elements of life share surprisingly visual connections.
Regis’s art is both artistic and personal. In March 2023, after a diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), she received a stem cell transplant supervised by the Dana Farber transplant team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. This life-saving experience inspired the series.
“The drawings are not intended to be an exact reproduction of cells, but instead evoke a life-affirming spirit of self-renewal,” Regis says.
