Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural features artwork by Yuko Oda. With this piece, she explores her own survival and within the natural world.

“As an immigrant, I relate to how plants and animals respond to climate change through mutation, symbiosis, and resilience,” Oda says. “I imagine myself as those organisms, adapting and transforming to continue living. Unexpected materials and methods reflect my multicultural identity, rooted in tradition, even as it breaks free.”

Support for GBH is provided by:

Oda creates multidisciplinary works that imagine speculative ecosystems flourishing beyond the human era. Oda obtained an M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design and a B.A. from Duke University in Visual Arts and Philosophy. Oda exhibits nationally and internationally and currently teaches in the Art and Design Department at University of Massachusetts Lowell.
