It's nearly Mother's Day, and in case you haven't noticed, some of the best characters from our favorite PBS dramas just happen to be moms. In their honor, and in no particular order, here are five of the best TV drama mamas, courtesy of the WGBH Drama Club.

Marmee, Little Women
Marmee is the consummate mom: warm, caring, and able to put up with four very distinct personalities in her vivacious daughters. A true legend, Marmee is a steadfast presence in any Little Women adaptation.

Louisa, The Durrells in Corfu
Do I want Louisa to be my mom, or my best friend? I can’t decide, so let's go with both! She’s bold, inventive, and all-around fabulous. Truly, #momgoals.

Victoria, Victoria
Now hear me out: was Victoria actively trying to avoid having children the first time we heard her discuss her progeny? Yes. But does she go on to birth and raise NINE kids while dealing with a never-ending parade of irritating mansplainers and sycophants and still maintain some flawlessly fashionable lewks? Also yes.

Fantine, Les Misérables
Sure, this story is horribly depressing, but would it really be fair to talk about iconic moms in drama and NOT mention Fantine? This woman gives up literally everything for her daughter Cosette, who grows up wanting for nothing.

Demelza, Poldark
Demelza is fiery, loyal, and ably takes care of her actual children in addition to several adults who act like children (looking at you, Ross). She even puts her own life at risk to go nurse her husband’s mean ex through a horrible disease because it’s the right thing to do. Your fave could never.
