This week, WGBH News' Arts Editor Jared Bowen visits the Art Complex Museum, The Boston Society of Architects Space, and reviews the latest from Flat Earth Theatre.
"Fat Pig", presented by Flat Earth Theatre at the Mosesian Center for the Arts through June 24

Mosesian Center for the Arts' Synopsis: "Smart, sexy and fat, Helen lives in a world that judges her for her weight. Her new, conventionally thin boyfriend Tom quickly becomes enamored with her despite the condemnation of his shallow, often convincing friends that threaten their relationship. Neil LaBute's unapologetic "Fat Pig" bluntly addresses what people see when they look at bodies – all bodies – and which ones deserve a happy ending."
Jared Says: "Spectacular performances that catapult you right into the uglier parts of human nature."
"Wood as Muse", on view at the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Mass. through September 3

Wood As Muse's Synopsis: "Wood As Muse features eleven very different sculptors whose connection is wood. With three to eight pieces from each artist, this is a deep introduction to the concept and the participants. The work selected is a broad overview of both the medium of wood and contemporary approaches to art making. This selection of artists is diverse in their approaches, yet they are delightfully connected by the artistry and craft of working with this iconic medium. Several of the artists are regionally based and familiar; all of the artists have national reputations, and many have international ones."
Jared Says: "Just come and marvel at the artistry and skill."
"The New Inflatable Moment", presented by the Boston Society of Architects/AIA at BSA Space through September 3

BSA Space's Synopsis: "This exhibition explores the resurgence of inflatable installations in architecture, art and engineering since the emergence of the hot air balloon. While celebrating their practical applications, the exhibition focuses on the role some of these revolutionary works of imagination have had in envisioning utopia. Through a series of installations, photographs, videos and models, "The New Inflatable Moment' contextualizes the renewed interest in inflatable structures for architectural and artistic experimentation as expressed among established, emerging and student architects and artists. The exhibit features Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Grimshaw, Anish Kapoor/Arata Isozaki, Otto Piene, Graham Stevens, Chico MacMurtrie and raumlaborberlin, among others. It also showcases the earlier, pioneering visions of Buckminster Fuller and Frei Otto; the utopian collectives of the late 1960s such as Haus-Rucker-Co, Utopie and Ant Farm; and the contemporary use of inflatable technology for space exploration."
Jared Says: "A concept that blows up into something wonderfully fascinating and thought provoking."
