GBH Celebrates Pride

Celebrating Pride

GBH celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride in June and beyond with engaging content and educational resources that highlight the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout the year, we honor the people who work to forge a more inclusive, diverse and equitable society. GBH is deeply grateful to LGBTQ+ individuals who strengthen society by sharing their stories. Explore our streaming films, broadcast schedule, and educational resources, and learn about Prism, our Employee Resource Group dedicated to LGBTQ+ employees and allies. Happy Pride Month to all!

Prism

For decades, staff who identify as LGBTQ+ have gathered at GBH to share personal stories, support one another, and create a safe space. In 2022, GBH created Prism, an Employee Resource Group (ERG) for LGBTQ+ employees and allies to foundationally acknowledge and champion this community. Prism is a safe, supportive and celebratory space for our LGBTQ+ community and the allies who support them. We provide a network to exchange ideas and support the professional development of our LGTBQ+ colleagues, as well as recruitment and retention efforts. We collaborate with leadership on policies and practices that positively impact LGBTQ+ colleagues.

We amplify initiatives that uphold the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that our content, internal programming, employee growth and development, and community engagement are built around an inclusive and equitable model. Prism members work in partnership with the Office of Inclusion & Equity to encourage LGBTQ+ employee feedback, and share ideas, and suggestions for enhancing workplace culture. You can learn more about GBH’s OIE and our other ERGs and efforts here.

Premieres

  • The owners of the iconic Chicago bar Sidetrack are civil rights leaders who have fought for LGBTQ+ equality for decades, but behind their activism is a love unlike any other. ART AND PEP is the story of their struggle to live and love freely.
  • Danny Sotomayor was a man on a mission. The fiery openly gay AIDS activist, political cartoonist, and organizer took to the streets, using civil disobedience to wage war on city officials who marginalized the LGBTQ community and largely ignored the AIDS crisis – all while fighting a losing battle with the disease himself. The Outrage of Danny Sotomayor profiles this hero who wouldn’t take no for an answer, and who channeled his rage and pain into a movement to effect positive change.
