Within the last month, he has stepped into the newly created role of editor-in-chief for GBH News and The World.   • Marco Werman, co-host of GBH’s The World, public radio’s longest-running daily global news program, has worked all over the world, joining GBH in 1995 to start The World, which is now heard on 377 public radio stations nationwide — a record number for the program.
  • “Thrilling and extraordinary.” That’s how Lidia Bastianich, star of GBH programs Lidia’s Kitchen and Lidia Celebrates America, describes her delight at being named a 2024 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Lifetime Achievement Honoree. Discovered as a television star by Julia Child’s producer, Bastianich reflects on her appreciation for the connective power of food, public media, and the opportunities she’s had as an immigrant.
  • GBH News is giving viewers a front row seat on young voters’ discussions about the biggest issues of the 2024 election and what will inspire them to vote — or not. The new YouTube video series Politics IRL (“in real life”) features young adults sitting face to face, often with someone who disagrees with them, hashing out their opinions. We talked with Azita Ghahramani, senior politics editor, and Alexi Cohan, producer, about the new series.
  • AMERICAN EXPERIENCE’s The Riot Report presents the story of the Kerner Commission and its first-of-its-kind 1968 government report that identified systemic racism as the cause of massive civil unrest in Black communities. But the results of the report were quickly buried by an administration afraid of potential political fallout. The film premieres on GBH 2 at 9pm on Tuesday, May 21, when it will also be available for streaming.
  • The new film from AMERICAN EXPERIENCE Poisoned Ground: The Tragedy at Love Canal tells the dramatic story of the ordinary women who fought against overwhelming odds for the health and safety of their families. Meet the filmmaker who uncovered their stories of challenging those in power, forcing America to reckon with the human cost of unregulated industry, and creating a grassroots movement that galvanized the landmark Superfund Bill.
  • The ANTIQUES ROADSHOW team is packing the truck to hit the road for a new season of tapings. Executive Producer Marsha Bemko filled us in on the back story — where they are going, what’s involved, and what’s new with America’s most watched ongoing PBS series.
