Supporting Independent Journalism
Independent journalism is an essential pillar of a healthy democracy. For more than 40 years, FRONTLINE has produced trusted, rigorously vetted journalism, remaining accountable to no one except the public. In this era of rising dis- and misinformation, deepening political polarization, and growing news deserts, independent journalism is under unprecedented threat. Targeted attacks are attempting to stifle the free press, and federal funding cuts threaten the future of local public media outlets. As all media faces new challenges—from AI-generated "fake news" to the weaponization of the legal system against reporters—FRONTLINE’s work has never been more critical.
Established to support all aspects of the FRONTLINE’s work while helping to expand the series reach, the FRONTLINE Trust (formerly the FRONTLINE Journalism Fund) provides unrestricted funds to give our producers and reporters the time and resources to delve deeply into complex subjects; maintain editorial independence; and keep our journalism free and accessible to all. Gifts to the FRONTLINE Trust are crucial to help the series maintain the editorial integrity that has been its hallmark for more than four decades.
