A few weeks ago, we brought you updates on new seasons of murder mysteries, and you had a LOT to say about it — many of you were quite effusive about our current drama lineup, and one reader even told us, “I love all the murder mysteries, especially Professor T.” Great news for you, in particular: this month we are getting brand new seasons of Professor T, Maigret, and The Gold. Hopefully this last one is an exciting option for those of you who aren’t as into the murder mysteries — more thriller, less killer. And if you’re not into this type of drama at all, don’t worry: cozy show season is right around the corner!

P.S. It’s our birthday! GBH officially turns 75 years old TODAY. If you can swing it, we hope you’ll have a slice of cake in our honor.

Cat Meet Mouse

Professor T

The original version of this show is Belgian and only had three seasons. Viewers liked it so much that we now have a British version. If you skipped the new show because you’ve already seen the original, you might want to reconsider: we’re about to start Season Five (Sunday October 18, 8 pm) which means that plot lines you’ll see are brand new!

MASTERPIECE: Maigret

Again, this is a reimagining of a story that’s been adapted before. What’s fun about this version is that it’s set in modern Paris, unlike the previous series (or, indeed, the novels) which are set in the 1950s. Another difference: while Madame Maigret is an important character in the books, she’s even more central to the story in the show. Catch the new season Sunday, October 18 starting at 9 pm.

MASTERPIECE: The Gold

In our recent “Villains” edition of The Deep Dive, a lot of you were interested in the true story behind The Gold. I get it: for some reason, autumn feels like the perfect time for a story about a heist. Find out what happens in the concluding season of the series starting Sunday, October 18 at 10 pm.

Spooky, Scary: Shows for Halloween

I don’t know about you, but I enjoy a good scare every now and then, and there’s no better time than Halloween for a spooky drama. Since you won’t hear from me again until after the holiday, I’m sending my favorite creepy, eerie, and frightening dramas your way now. Watch if you dare!

The Turn of the Screw

A Victorian era ghost story seems like a classic way to kick off this list. Tune in for the specters; stay for Downton Abbey alums Michelle Dockery and Dan Stevens.

Rebecca

Rebecca is a classic scary story for a reason, and this adaptation – anchored by two of my personal favorites Charles Dance and Diana Rigg – really does the trick.

Northanger Abbey

If you’re going to watch an Austen adaptation this season, I feel like it should be her parody of gothic fiction!

Death Comes to Pemberley

Speaking of Austen — ever wonder what her stories would be like if there was a murder? Find out with this charming adaptation of P. D. James’ novel of the same name.

Jekyll and Hyde

This series is a continuation of the story told in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Victorian novella, which is one of THE defining gothic works. What could be better for spooky season? It also always makes me think of this classic song from Arthur, which will now be stuck in your head too (sorry, not sorry).

Snow

Eerie visions, strange neighbors, and the discovery of a decades-old corpse? Sounds like a perfect Halloween show! Heads up that Snow is one of our Walter Presents series, which means it is in German, with English subtitles.

Recipe of the Week

Dulce-De-Leche Makes-Everything-Better Bars

This sweet treat is pear-fect for fall; definitely worth investigating.
