Lawmakers on Thursday avoided a government shutdown as they passed a short-term funding bill to last through December. But key underlying issues of governance remained, including the looming debt ceiling limit and a longstanding stalemate over addressing the country’s crumbling infrastructure, college affordability and climate change.

Jim Braude was joined on Greater Boston by former Massachusetts Congressman Michael Capuano and Washington Post reporter Annie Linskey to discuss.

“This is horrendous,” Capuano said of the stalemate. “This is the politics of extremism that started under the Far Right and has now bled into the Left — it’s absolutism gone crazy… Compromise is an absolutely essential feature of life, and politics and government are no exception.”
