The House of Representatives just passed a bill containing an additional $3 trillion in stimulus to help struggling Americans during the coronavirus pandemic. Will it gain traction in the Senate?
CNN's John King told Boston Public Radio on Tuesday he thinks more money could be approved, but it won't be for a while.
"Do I think there will be another package? I say yes, but I say that with a bit of caution," he said. "If you watch even in the last five or six hours today, you see the Republicans are at least publicly in their words getting colder and colder to this idea."
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has maintained he doesn't see the "urgency" for another package. King explained this might be a valid concern, as a lot of the already approved money from the previous stimulus package still has not been distributed.
"Give republicans a little grace when they say 'We still haven't spent all the money we've allocated.' That's a fair point," he said. "Will house Democrats get all $3 trillion they ask for in their bill? Most likely not. Are there enough Republicans who say state and local governments deserve some assistance, we'll need more money for testing, there may be other things we need to spend more money on, yes ... In short, I think there will be more. When? I think it's going to be a little while."
