Protect My GBH

Public media is facing uncertain times. Recently, there's been a big push to diminish or even eliminate public media, including an Executive Order for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to stop funding PBS and NPR.

We need your help to support public media. Reach out to your congressional representatives and let them know how much you value public media and its positive impact.

As part of a larger shift that’s affecting other institutions and public programs, the U.S. Department of Education has halted its Ready To Learn grants, which help stations like GBH create iconic kids programming such as Arthur, Molly of Denali and Work it Out Wombats. Nearly half of the kids in the U.S. lack access to pre-K education. Public kids programming helps bridge this gap, so halting funding directly impacts their future learning opportunities, while also impacting the programs we offer at GBH to support lifelong education.

For over 50 years, GBH Kids has empowered children and families and promoted lifelong learning. We’re also the home of PBS LearningMedia, public media’s flagship digital learning service that offers thousands of free, standards-aligned videos, interactives, and instructional resources for K-12 teachers and students.

At GBH, we're committed to the future. We'll keep providing fact-based journalism on everything from education and science to the arts, making sure everyone has access to high-quality, informative programming that strengthens our democracy.

We create your favorite national programs.

From groundbreaking documentaries to heartstopping dramas, from award-winning investigative journalism to the nation’s oldest treasure hunt, GBH produces programs that make up the primetime line up for PBS, reaching nearly 30 million people per week. For more than 20 years, Americans have said they trust PBS more than any other national institution.

We care about kids.

For more than 50 years, GBH has produced iconic programs like Arthur and Molly of Denali, with the focus on empowering kids and families, while also encouraging them to be lifelong learners.

We’re also the home of PBS LearningMedia, public media’s flagship digital learning service that offers thousands of free, standards-aligned videos, interactives, and instructional resources for K-12 teachers and students.

We produce trusted journalism.

Every day, GBH provides credible, facts-based, distinctive local, national, and international news. In an era of expanding news deserts and polarization, our reporting on GBH 89.7 and GBH News platforms connects the Commonwealth by partnering with CAI and NEPM to bring Bay State residents more comprehensive coverage of what matters to them. Globally, The World’s distinctive coverage and FRONTLINE’s investigative reporting have won every major journalism and broadcasting award.

We are community driven.

Named the most trusted media institution in our region, we work to earn your trust every day. Offering live programs at the BPL Studio, where the public can ask elected officials questions on Boston Public Radio and see The Culture Show's live broadcast, as well as experience free music, poetry, and more.

We have a legacy of innovation.

We created how-to television with the advent of Julia Child’s The French Chef and This Old House. We’re also proud of our rich history in accessibility, as we were the first to introduce and use closed captions and audio descriptions for broadcast, and continue to innovate in the space today.

And we contribute nationally, too.

We partner with PBS stations on events and toolkits to serve kids, educators, and the general public in their area.
