NPR is thrilled that Up First from NPR is among the nominees for Best Podcast at the 83rd Golden Globes Awards ceremony, taking place this Sunday, January 11 in Los Angeles. Podcasts will be recognized for the first time this year, and Up First is the only news podcast to be nominated. Other podcast nominees include Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Mel Robbins Podcast and SmartLess.

Since its launch in 2017, Up First has been a cornerstone of NPR’s signature rigor and reportage in the audio landscape. Delivering “the news you need to start your day,” Up First brings listeners a deep-dive into the day’s top three stories, researched and presented by expert journalists, all in less than the time it takes to finish your coffee. From our exceptional editorial and production team, to hosts Leila Fadel, Steve Inskeep, Michel Martin, A. Martinez, Ayesha Rascoe and Scott Simon, the Up First staff works through the night to ensure that listeners get a thorough grasp on the top headlines, all in time for their morning commute.

The decision to honor podcasting with its own category at the Golden Globes reflects the growing importance of the medium. Worldwide audiences across audio and video podcasts is expected to exceed 600 million in 2026, according to Luminate, the entertainment industry’s largest data and analytics research platform. As Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne notes, “podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations. By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honor our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard.”
