Attorney General Merrick Garland has promised more charges to come against people who were part of the 2021 attack on the Capitol, while many continue to call for former President Donald Trump to be charged in the insurrection. Nancy Gertner, retired federal judge and senior lecturer at Harvard Law School, and former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan joined Jim Braude on Greater Boston to discuss.

Trump was scheduled to deliver a press conference at Mar-a-Lago today, but abruptly cancelled the event. Gertner said that Trump could be held responsible for more than just the Capitol attack.

“It’s not just a focus on Jan. 6 and who was responsible for it,” she said. “There are other questions that are raised about Trump’s activities and other’s activities with respect to Georgia and the electoral college… what else was being done to set aside a lawful election?”

Braude asked Sullivan if he believes Trump committed a crime on Jan. 6 or should be investigated. “I see no evidence to suggest that the former president committed a crime by participating in a rally, a demonstration,” Sullivan replied. “We should embrace the right of people to demonstrate even if we don’t agree with the message… I don’t think you should be investigating a person, you should be investigating the events.”
