The Department of Justice announced this week that NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo would not be prosecuted for the death of Eric Garner in 2014. Pantaleo was filmed choking Garner as he yelled, "I can't breath."

This news brought a wave of criticism against New York City Mayor and presidential candidate Bill De Blasio this week for not firing Pantaleo. De Blasio has respond by saying it is important to respect Pantaleo's right to due process.

De Blasio, who has a black wife and son, has talked about raising a black son while on the campaign trail both for mayor and president, to exemplify the necessity of criminal justice reform.

Callie Crossley, the host of WGBH News' Under The Radar, pointed to the hypocrisy of de Blasio's statements about his son Dante and his refusal to act against Pantaleo on Boston Public Radio Friday.

Crossley said that she thinks that de Blasio will have to face questions about Garner and Pantaleo in the next round of presidential debates. "He is going to have to answer, what do you say to your son then when that easily could have been him or anybody like him on the street where this guy is choking him to death," she said.

"You can not just not speak to it, it is insulting on so many levels," she continued.
