Several events across eastern Massachusetts have been cancelled due to the Nor’easter set to hit the region Friday night and lasting through Sunday.

The coastal storm is forecasted to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and some localized flooding to the region. Local utility companies say they are prepared to respond to any outages.

“We are monitoring the forecast, as is everybody else,” said Olessa Stepanova, spokesperson for Eversource Massachusetts. “We’re still expecting the heaviest impacts to be with the Cape and southeastern Massachusetts. We’re planning for this to be a significant event.”

Stepanova said the utility company is ready for downed trees and will restore power should there be outages.

“The combination of strong winds and that saturated ground, that increases the risk of trees and limbs falling on electrical equipment. And that is the leading cause of outages. About 90% of storm-related outages are tree-related,” she said.

A September storms are rare, but not without precedent: 41 years ago, Hurricane Gloria struck the region and left 500,000 Massachusetts residents without power.

Large events that have been cancelled include the Ed Sheeran concerts scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

The Boston Red Sox changed start times for its series against the Cubs at Fenway Park in Boston.

At the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, all ferries to Spectacle and Peddocks Islands from Thursday through Sunday have been cancelled.
At the Boston African American National Historic Site, the 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Black Heritage Trail tours on Saturday will be moved indoors in the Find Your Park Space in the basement of Faneuil Hall.
In Brookline, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site has canceled the neighborhood tours planned for Saturday and Sunday.
The “Muskets, Men and Liberty” demonstration at planned for Saturday at Boston National History Park at Bunker Hill Monument has been cancelled.
At the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site, the Waterwheel Extravaganza Program scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sept. 26, which is part of the Trails and Sails program series, has been canceled
The city of Quincy’s Heritage Day is rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17.
The town of Medway cancelled its annual Porchfestand postponed the police 5K run and yard sale.
Medfield postponed its town–wide yard sale, Medway Police chase and Miyawaki Forest Planting.
The RoboBoston Robot Block Party planned for Boston's Seaport area on Saturday has been postponed. MassRobotics plans to reschedule the Robot Block Party for May 1, 2027, indoors at SoWa, 500 Harrison Ave, Boston.
The Battle of Dighton Reenactment that was scheduled for this weekend has been postponed until 2027 due to the storm.
