It’s been nearly 48 hours since the Patriots’ devastating Super Bowl loss to the Seahawks, but if you’ve walked down the street recently, it may seem like the MBTA missed that memo.

Some T buses are still driving around the streets of Boston displaying a “Go Patriots” banner. The cheer-turned-harsh reminder flashes between the standard bus display showing its route number and destination.

The transit agency began displaying messages honoring the Pats last week in advance of the team’s Super Bowl appearance, with all MBTA buses across Greater Boston running the banners on Super Bowl Sunday. One might assume that the displays would be promptly removed after the team’s disastrous performance, but thanks to a programming issue, several buses have continued displaying the banners well into the work week.

“All of the buses have to be reprogrammed and that work is underway,” an MBTA spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “We expect it to take about a week for all buses to receive the programming that removes the ‘GO PATRIOTS’ heading as an option to display.”

The spokesperson said bus displays can be manually turned off from within the bus, and many bus operators have been remembering to switch off the Pats banners. Still, until the reprogramming is complete, it’s likely some reminders of Sunday’s loss will continue to greet bus riders, pedestrians and drivers across Greater Boston.
