UMass Memorial Medical Center in Marlborough evacuated more than 70 patients last night after a broken valve disrupted the facility’s heating system and caused flooding.
The hospital said it learned of the issue around 5:45 p.m. and went into “Code Black,” halting new ambulance arrivals to its emergency department and transporting all patients to other hospitals. Ambulances from several areas assisted with the evacuation.
An update on the hospital’s website Monday morning says the problem has been resolved, and no water remains in the basement. Still, mitigation efforts continue.
The walk-in emergency unit is open, but inpatient services remain suspended. Patients who need to be admitted will being transferred to other facilities. The hospital is keeping its scheduled mammography visits today, but is rescheduling all other outpatient care.
Marlborough Hospital merged with UMass Memorial Medical Center earlier this year. The 79-bed community hospital is the smallest of UMass Memorial’s facilities.
