After a brief break in showers, more rain is headed for New England overnight and into the July 4 holiday. The timing of the showers may spoil your day at the beach but should bode well for evening activities.

This overnight round of showers and potential thunderstorms could contain more heavy downpours, frequent lightning and even the possibility of gusty winds and hail. Not everybody will see these types of storms, but almost everybody has the risk for them.

July 4 does not look like a perfect weather day by any means, although it will not rain all the time.

There's going to be another area of showers and thunderstorms crossing the region from late morning through later in the afternoon. At this time, I expect the showers to be offshore by about 7 p.m.

Temperatures will be in the lower 80s Tuesday. Humidity will be high, and likely remain high for the next several days.

Things change a bit on Wednesday as warmer air pushes into the region along with dry conditions. Temperatures during Wednesday afternoon will be 85 to 90 inland and 80 to 85 for Cape Cod. With the humidity, it will feel even warmer.

This will be a great beach day. And if you have taken the week off work, the second half is certainly going to be better than the first.

There should be another generally dry and hot day for Thursday before things start going slightly downhill late Friday and over the weekend with a chance for scattered showers. Right now it doesn’t appear the weekend is a washout, but there are still a few days to refine the forecast further, either for the better or worse.
