WGBH News announced Monday that it was adding "1A," a live news program hosted by Joshua Johnson, to its daytime lineup on 89.7FM.
The show will be broadcast from 10-11am each weekday and replaces "The Takeaway," which will continue to air from 2-3pm Monday through Friday.
"Today, the news cycle is constant and breaking news happens all day," said WGBH News Director Kate Zachry. The change will "bring our listeners one more source for live news, adding a national focus to the live local coverage that is produced at WGBH News every day."
The name "1A" is a reference to the First Amendment of the Constitution, which enshrines the right to free speech and protects the freedom of the press. The show, which is produced by WAMU in Washington, D.C., tackles a variety of topics including policy, politics, technology, pop culture and sports.
