Duck boats are a fixture on our streets and a magnet for tourists looking for a fun way to see and experience Boston. The company started in 1994 with four ducks, and today there are 28 roaming city streets and barking out historic facts. They have become a staple of championship parades for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins.

Allison Warmuth, a 28-year-old insurance underwriter, was on a moped when she got clipped by a duck boat in her adopted hometown of Boston. She died from her injuries.

This followed high profile accidents from around the country, like when a tugboat rammed a duck boat on a river in Philadelphia, or a collision on a bridge in Seattle which killed four international students. Allison's parents are now trying to improve safety measures on these vehicles here in Massachusetts, like requiring the driver not be responsible for narrating the tour.
