Winter storm warnings have been issued for most of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island beginning Sunday night. The National Weather Service says between 8 and 14 inches of snow could fall in eastern and central areas Sunday night into Monday, with up to 16 in the Berkshires. Southwestern Connecticut could see between 5 and 10 inches of snow and sleet.
This snow fall comes from an unusually slow-moving storm crawling into the Midwest is expected to be the most widespread of the season in that region. Officials warn that the storm could make driving to Super Bowl house parties a bad idea.
The most intense period of snow in the Midwest is forecast to hit tonight, right around game time. Potential wind gusts of up to 40 mph are expected, so drivers could face terrible visibility and snarling drifts from up to a foot of snow
It's eventually headed to New England which is just recovering from last week's storm. The National Weather Service says between 8 and 14 inches of snow could fall in parts of New England beginning around midnight, with more in higher elevations.
Another foot or so could spell particular trouble for snow-clearing operations in Boston's narrow streets.
