Beginning next week, WGBH News is taking a closer look at recent fatal police shootings of unarmed black men. By interviewing local experts and carefully analyzing the issues surrounding the incidents, as well as questions raised within communities and our own city, we hope to offer greater depth and insight into the problem and what can be done toward a resolution.
The week-long focus will run Monday-Friday next week, beginning December 8 and leading up to the march in Washington on Saturday, December 13. Stories will air on 89.7 WGBH’s Morning Edition each day at 7:20 a.m. and on WGBH 2's Greater Boston beginning at 7:00 p.m.
We’re hoping to explore topics like how does a grand jury work, Department of Justice investigations and the influence of politics and bureaucracy, police and community relations, police diversity and training, differing state legislation and how trying a case in Massachusetts might have different outcomes than in Missouri or New York, and when does a social movement begin.
