There were fewer frustrated consumers this time around seeking insurance enrollment on the Massachusetts Health Connector website that launched this past weekend.

The state website launched in conjunction with the federal site.  Under the Affordable Care Act, the web site assists people without insurance on how to apply and  obtain affordable health insurance based on income levels.

Dr. Benjamin Sommers of the Harvard School of Public Health tells WGBH the system was working well for first time users. He says early reports show access to the state and federal insurance websites for the start of the three month enrollment period were greatly improved over last year's effort when things went awry.

Sommers says," what's going to take longer to sort out are how things are working on the backend of the website design issue,  and that relates to what information gets conveyed to the insurance company, whether information about who is  enrolled and how much they need to pay is correct."
He says that will determine how successful things are going.

Nearly six-thousand consumers applied for insurance on the state web site and nearly one-hundred thousand applied nationwide.
