The details of a proposal by Massachusetts House Speaker Robert Deleo to raise the minimum wage are scheduled for release Thursday.
Speaker Deleo has proposed raising the state's minimum wage from $8 per hour to $10.50.
Deleo's proposal sets up a potential showdown with the Senate which passed a larger minimum wage hike last year. The senate wants to raise the minimum wage to $11 dollars per hour.
The house bill also includes business friendly changes to the state’s unemployment insurance system.
Over the past week, members of the Joint Labor and Workforce Development Committee have been ironing out the details of the house bill. It will be ready for a procedural vote later today, the first step in getting the bill to the house floor.
Governor Deval Patrick supports a minimum wage hike but he hasn’t said publicly whether he backs raising it to $10.50 or $11. He says he hasn’t taken a side because he wants to be helpful to the chambers in negotiating a final agreement.
