National Grid had 5,000 customers without power earlier today, but company officials said it has all been restored.
Only about 100 NSTAR customers are out right now. Utility companies have brought in crews from as far away as Oklahoma and Nova Scotia. In addition to those, the Gov. Deval Patrick has called for more National Guard troops.
“There are a thousand National Guard Members on duty now,” said Massacusetts Emergency Management Agency director Kurt Schwartz. “We expect to build that up to nearly 5,000 over the course of the weekend.”
Those men and women are inland and on the coast, assisting local police and sandbagging. Everyone at the MEMA command center is concerned about the 10 p.m, high tide.
All nonemergency vehicle travel has been banned until Saturday afternoon.
