The approaching New Year means First Night celebrations from one end of Massachusetts to the other.
The oldest festival takes place in Boston, where First Night activities typically draw about 1 million visitors.
The event showcases the work of 1,000 artists, including musicians playing everything from soul to pop. And ice sculptures are on display at venues across the city.
The fireworks show over Boston Harbor at midnight will go off the same time as a display at Worcester's First Night, which also features musical acts and a tribute to the city's former mayor, Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray.
Northampton's First Night includes a circus and parade, as well as performances by a juggler and musicians playing a range of styles, from Motown, to Latin jazz to Israeli dances.
