Founder of the Boston Wine School Jonathon Alsop joined Boston Public Radio on Thursday to explain the new American tariff on international wines.

"This is the big wine news right now — a 25% additional tariff on wine from France, Spain, Germany and the U.K., but on Italy, 0 percent," Alsop said. The tariff will begin to be implemented on Oct. 18, he added.

"The hope is that consumers will try American wines, but the reality is they'll run into the arms of Argentina and Chile," Alsop said.
