If you travel on the MBTA in Boston, there's a good chance you recognize the voice of Frank Oglesby.

For more than 30 years, Oglesby has been voicing all announcements on Boston's MBTA buses and trains. But Friday, July 28 is his last day behind the microphone. He's stepping away from his job as the voice of the MBTA and retiring. (Listen to his voice announcement below)

As a baritone, Oglesby's deep resonant voice could be heard making all announcements; canceling or changing service onboard agency buses and trains.

Ironically, Oglesby says the man doing the voice-over job before him was a man named Robert Devin, who held the position for  50-plus years. Devin died at the age of 94 in 2011.

Oglesby says he landed the gig after an audio-visual producer auditioned him,  liked how he sounded and hired him.

“The projects are given to me in pieces, such as bus stop stations to read, or train announcements for one of the lines. I did all of the Green Line at one time, or all of the Red Line…probably thousands of announcements,” says Oglesby,

The 54-year old says it was “the right time’ to step down and do other things.

Next stop for Oglesby…retirement. He says he’ll possibly pursue an actor/voice-over career in Boston, since he knows his way around the city pretty good.
