February, according to meteorologist and Weather Channel founder Joe D'Aleo, was "month like no other in our lifetime, and no one who's lived their life in Boston area has experienced a forty day and calendar month as extreme for the combination of cold and snow as we've have seen this winter."

D'Aleo said February was the second coldest month in  history in Boston and the coldest ever in Worcester, Hartford, and Nashua, which had 18 days of low temperatures of zero or below, which is a record.

D'Aleo -- in an interview with WGBH Morning Edition host Bob Seay --  said the records for Boston go as far back as 1872. He says Boston had a record snowfall in February with 64.6 inches. Logan International Airport recorded 100.4 inches -- more than 8 feet.

If you look at the ten year running average of snowfall, Boston in 2015 scored had the highest average.
