Massachusetts native Don Featherstone carved the mold for the first legendary pink flamingo lawn ornament by hand more than 50 years ago.
And though he’s been sporadically fêted over the years for his undeniable contribution to American pop culture, nothing could prepare him for the call he got a few years ago. It was Disney. Not only did they want to use the pink flamingo as a character, they wanted to name it after its creator. The movie, "Gnomeo & Juliet," hit theaters in February 2011. To mark the occasion, Don Featherstone joined Emily Rooney on air.
