FALMOUTH, MA (November 14, 2025) – CAI, the Cape and Islands NPR station and a service of public media powerhouse GBH, today kicked off its 25th anniversary celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new home in Falmouth, and further deepened its commitment to the community with the launch of a new member benefit and upcoming event series.
“In the fall of 2000, we began broadcasting from Martha’s Vineyard, and since then, CAI has grown into an award-winning source for news and information vital to our local communities,” said Mindy Todd, CAI Executive Editor. “This move is our next major step, as we explore ways to expand our reporting and further engage our community from our new, modern home base.”
CAI continues to grow, expanding the team with new reporters and other roles to broaden coverage across the Cape and Islands, and adding programs like The Garden Lady with plant expert C.L Fornari. With Boston-based GBH and New England Public Media in Springfield, CAI is also participating in an initiative called Connecting the Commonwealth, with collaborative reporting statewide, including segments that share CAI’s coverage with all of Massachusetts.
“We are proud to continue to invest in CAI’s local journalism and the talented team that produces it every day,” said Dan Lothian, Editor-in-Chief and General Manager of Local News for GBH. “The essential stories and news CAI produces here on the Cape benefit not only this area, but communities statewide, helping them to connect and stay informed. We look forward to fostering even stronger connections between our journalists and the listeners we serve.”
CAI’s newly-renovated, purpose-built facility, located at the Newton Wing of the Cape Symphony Conservatory building in Falmouth, is approximately 2000 square feet and situated next to Highfield Hall & Gardens, with nearly 400 acres of conservation land and paths. The location is easy to access and includes parking and gathering space for public events.
CAI is planning many more ways to engage with audiences in the coming year, including a 25th anniversary event series, and a public open house at the new studio. A calendar of upcoming events will be shared in early 2026.
Additionally, to thank loyal listeners and mark this exciting new chapter, GBH is launching a new benefit for CAI members: access to PBS Passport. PBS Passport is a member benefit from participating PBS stations that gives eligible donors and supporters extended access to an on-demand library of quality public television programming online. The PBS Passport library features episodes from popular GBH programs, including AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, NOVA, and MASTERPIECE. CAI has begun reaching out to qualifying members about the benefit. Others interested in gaining PBS Passport access through CAI membership can go here.
“This is an exciting moment for CAI as we celebrate the station’s history and open doors to the future,” said Susan Goldberg, President and CEO of GBH. “We are grateful for the strong, passionate community that supports CAI, especially in this moment, when federal funding for public media has disappeared and facts are under pressure.”
