The World engages U.S. audiences with international affairs and news through human-centered journalism while consistently connecting the global to the local. Beeler will enable additional flexibility in how stories are covered, allowing Beeler and Werman to report from different locations around the world.

The World airs on 376 public radio stations across the United States and Canada, reaching an audience of more than 2 million nationwide each week.

“We’re delighted to have Carolyn Beeler in this new role as co-host for The World,” said Dan Lothian, Executive Producer. “She has been a long-time voice on The World, providing smart insights and clarity in her reporting about difficult situations, from Ukraine to climate change. She’ll work closely with Marco to ensure our audience continues to understand the world we live in today.”

Beeler joined The World in 2015 as a reporter. She currently oversees the show’s environment coverage, reporting and editing stories about climate change and the people and places most impacted by it. Beeler has reported from all seven continents and her work while at The World has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Alliance for Women in Media, and with two Edward R. Murrow Awards. Recently, she co-hosted special coverage marking the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine.

"The World does international news like nobody else on public radio," Beeler said, "and I'm thrilled to work alongside Marco and our stellar team of producers in this new role."

Werman joined The World as a reporter when the show began in 1995. He took over full-time as host in 2013.. Beeler will join Marco Werman to host the show Monday through Thursday. She’ll join Carol Hills to host the show on Fridays.

“Carolyn is an exceptional journalist and has contributed significantly to The World since she joined the team. Her work on climate-related stories, including looking for solutions to this existential crisis, is impactful and brings significant value to our listeners,” said Werman. “Having her as a co-host will be a gift for me and our audience.”
