Boston, MA — September 26, 2023 — As the intensity of the presidential election season builds, GBH News is adding The Middle with Jeremy Hobson to the 89.7 FM broadcast schedule. The new live national call-in show aims to find common ground for Americans by bringing people in the geographic, political or philosophical “middle” of issues into the conversation. In the Boston market, The Middle with Jeremy Hobson airs exclusively on GBH 89.7 FM, and streams at www.gbhnews.org and in the GBH News app, beginning on Thursday, September 28, in the 9 pm slot.

“Americans in the middle are the ones who often decide who’s in power and what gets done in this country—but they are also frequently ignored by the media,” said Jeremy Hobson, the program host, executive producer and creator. “I’m delighted to reconnect with Boston listeners, where I spent many years, as we elevate the unheard voices of everyday Americans in this divisive political environment.”

Jeremy Hobson and in-studio guests will be joined by Los Angeles-based DJ and performer Tolliver, a rising hip-hop and social media star, who will bring his unique spin of music and viewpoints to each show. The first program will launch from Urbana, Illinois, on September 28, with former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar and Cynthia Wang of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management as guests. They will ask listeners what they think about how Americans can talk to one another even when they disagree.

“In a time of increasing polarization on the national stage, we want to help build bridges and make sure the voices of everyday Americans are heard in our programming,” said Lee Hill, executive editor of GBH News. “We believe Jeremy’s commitment to finding common ground will provide a unique and valuable perspective in the local market.”

In the lead-up to the 2024 election, The Middle with Jeremy Hobson will broadcast from different locations in the United States in partnership with local public radio stations. The radio broadcast will be produced in partnership with Illinois Public Media in Urbana, IL, and Nashville Public Radio in Nashville, TN. Listeners are invited to call in on a different topic weekly at 1-844-4MIDDLE (1-844-464-3353).

The program addition brings Under the Radar with Callie Crossley to Wednesdays at 9 pm and will shorten the evening rebroadcast of Boston Public Radio on Wednesdays by one hour.
