Boston, MA (May 23, 2023) - Buckingham Browne & Nichols School (BB&N) has earned the title of High School Quiz Show® State Champion. The Cambridge-based independent school rose to the top of the bracket to face Mansfield High School in the culminating match of Boston public media producer GBH’s academic tournament. BB&N defeated Mansfield with a final score of 380 to 310 on the Season 14 finale, which aired on Saturday, May 20.

Hosted by Boston media personality Billy Costa, High School Quiz Show is a showcase for high school smarts, bringing 17 schools from across Massachusetts together for a season of fast-paced, head-to-head matches that test students’ acumen in categories such as literature, math, history, science, civics and current events. Season 14 of High School Quiz Show is available to stream in its entirety on highschoolquizshow.org and the High School Quiz ShowYouTube channel.

BB&N made its first High School Quiz Show appearance on Season 13, losing in the first-round Wild Card match. The team returned to the High School Quiz Show podium in Season 14 by earning one of the top scores at the Super Sunday qualifying event in November 2022.

Coached by BB&N English teacher Sam Crihfield and BB&N math teacher Chip Rollinson, teammates Asher, Bradford, Daniel and Henry successfully lead the team to victory. Over the course of the season, teams were presented with special celebrity questions from actors, athletes, politicians, scientists and artists such as Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu, Boston Bruins left winger Brad Marchand, NASA astrophysicist Dr. Amber Straughn and Broadway playwright Michael R. Jackson.

In addition to the championship title, BB&N earned a $1,000 check, a 2023 commemorative trophy, gold medals for each student and coach and a banner to be displayed at the school.

Sixty-five schools competed in the Super Sunday qualifying event last November. The 17 schools that competed in Season 14 of High School Quiz Show earned the highest scores during Super Sunday. The schools that competed this season were:
