Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural features a still from a body of work called Needle Tip of Impermanence by Ilona Anderson. This artwork was previously displayed as an immersive animation exhibition. The show brought together a series of “moving painting” animations that explore the lived experience of impermanence and transformation.
Drawing on a practice that defies conventional digital aesthetics, Anderson works against the grain of mainstream animation by creating intimate, painterly works that pulse with texture, memory, and fleeting sensation.
Anderson is a South African artist with an international career and came to Boston on a Fulbright Scholarship. She has many works in major South African collections including the National Gallery, the University of Witwatersrand Art Gallery, the Nelson Mandela Art Museum, as well as in private collections there and abroad.
