BOSTON (June 3, 2020) – Boston public media producer WGBH is collaborating with the social media platform TikTok to bring short-form educational content to new digital audiences. The project, part of TikTok’s $50 million Creative Learning Fund, addresses increased demand for informative and inspirational content on social media as audiences grapple with the global pandemic.

WGBH is producing educational science content for TikTok. The content will be published daily to the WGBH TikTok channel and found through the hashtag #LearnOnTikTok.

“WGBH has a mission to produce powerful, positive media programs that inspire and entertain, and education is at the heart of this programming,” said President and CEO Jon Abbott. “ Through efforts like this collaboration with TikTok, we are bringing this programming to innovative platforms, helping us to inspire and engage the next generation of public media fans and learners.”

The new #LearnOnTikTok videos are being produced by WGBH, in close collaboration with WGBH Education, which researches, creates and distributes media-integrated resources to support healthy development and educational impact for children and youth. Many of the resources developed by WGBH Education reside on PBS LearningMedia, a free digital service that supports Pre-K–12 educators and learners with compelling, standards-aligned educational media resources.

“While TikTok has always provided users with an outlet for creative expression and fun, wholesome, light-hearted content during these unprecedented times, we've seen our community gravitate toward an even more enriching experience on the platform,” said Bryan Thoensen, Head of Content Partnerships, TikTok U.S. “Last month, we announced the formation of our $50 million Creative Learning Fund to bring more informative, instructional, motivational and even inspirational content to TikTok. We can’t wait to be inspired by the creative ways the TikTok community comes together to #LearnOnTikTok.”
