PEEP and the Big Wide World, WGBH’s Emmy Award-winning series that teaches STEM to an early childhood audience, launched an all-new series of free digital apps in Spanish and English—along with supporting materials for educators who work directly with families.
The PEEP Family Science apps combine animated stories from PEEP and the Big Wide World with related hands-on science activities, along with parenting tips, videos and prompts throughout.
The series reaffirms our commitment to educating children and adults of all ages on the platforms where they are, including via apps and other digital tools. Research shows media can enhance children’s learning—especially when used with an adult and as a springboard for hands-on exploration—and we’re continually exploring how to use emerging platforms to do just that.
The apps were developed by WGBH and researchers from the Education Development Center, and tested over two years with nearly 200 diverse families. Designed with parents in mind, especially those served by home visiting programs, the apps have been found to be engaging, easy-to-use and—perhaps most important—FUN, by children, parents and educators alike.
