Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural by Marcia Crumley explores the delight and wonder found in simple and often unexpected places. She creates joyful, layered landscapes that highlight the beauty of the natural world. This particular one focuses on the brilliant oranges and golds of autumn foliage against a clear blue sky.

“My painting process is defined by layering,” Crumley says. “Each piece contains up to 15-20 strata of pigmented beeswax. With each pass, I’m not just applying more wax paint, but intuitively responding to what is already on the surface and adding fresh thoughts and observations.”
