Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural, Metamorphosis by Liza F. Carter, is a deep personal exploration of transformation, intertwining the life cycle of a butterfly with Carter’s own journey from childhood to adulthood. The fabric collage quilt features four images of her face at different ages, alongside motifs that symbolize growth and change.

“I had fun working with this very slow and meditative technique of creating an image out of fabric,” Carter says. “I describe it as solving a jigsaw puzzle while simultaneously designing the final image and creating the puzzle pieces.”
