The We Declare! Challenge and iCivics announced the winners of the inaugural statewide civics competition, recognizing three Massachusetts classrooms for their creative interpretations of the Declaration of Independence. More than 2,100 eighth grade students from 44 school districts participated, submitting 145 videos from across the Commonwealth.

Boston Green Academy in Brighton was named the featured winner, earning the John Hancock Award for Excellence in Civic Expression. They appeared on the GBH Digital Mural on Friday, July 3.

Ashfield Middle School in Brockton received the John & Abigail Adams Award for Civic Leadership. They appeared on the GBH Digital Mural on Friday, July 10.
