Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural, The Quiet Season by C.J. Lori, is a landscape painting that serves as a metaphoric portrait. By identifying with the environment, Lori hopes that people are more likely to appreciate its significance and fragility.

Lori’s primary medium is oil paint on canvas, wood, or panel. Paint is applied in many layers, building and adding nuance through color and transparent glazes. She often works with tiny brushes for fine detail. “Through my paintings, I simultaneously celebrate the splendor that surrounds us while acknowledging its inevitable ruin,” Lori says.
