Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural, Glaciers Calving by Susan Altman, represents glaciers disintegrating as the weather heats up.
The stunning beauty, magnificence, and simultaneous extreme danger posed by these non-human structures stand in fierce contrast to human activities that vastly overreach our planet’s climate change boundaries. Glaciers are affected by and directly affect climate patterns. Warming seas and air cause glaciers to permanently melt away, while the loss of glaciers’ reflective white surfaces cause land and oceans to absorb more heat, leading to further warming.
Altman is a longtime resident of Medford, MA, and a passionate mosaic artist.
