Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural, Meanwhile Galaxies Collide by Bekka Teerlink, focuses on the themes of natrual cycles, impermanence, and transformations. She create magical realist scenes with portals to other realities and glimpses of other dimensions.
“I have a fascination with the images from the James Webb Space Telescope that allow me to imagine what exists beyond this planet, and how we are all made of stardust,” Teerlink says. “Many of these paintings deal with impermanence and my feeling of mortality, but I also think about cycles in nature. Matter and energy can change or be transferred, but it is never lost. So in some way, we will all live on forever.”
Teerlink has a B.A. from Brandeis University in Studio Fine Arts Painting with a minor in Creative Writing Poetry and an M.F.A. in Cinema-Television Production/Cinematography from the University of Southern California. She currently lives in Medford, MA, and has a studio at Vernon Street Studios in Somerville, MA, and works at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
