Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural is a photograph by Drew Katz (Whirly Nerd). He composes his photos to feature the simple geometric shapes, lines, and elements that make up the boundaries of different sports fields, creating images reminiscent of abstract paintings from the mid-20th century. These works, which were shot with a drone or from a helicopter, primarily showcase athletic fields and courts featuring complex combinations of lines and varied surfaces.
Katz has been exhibiting his fine art aerial photography since 2020.
